NRENs and RRENs as Barometer for Market Competitiveness

An NREN represents a knowledgeable purchaser of telecommunications, mainly within its national boundaries. Regional network procurers such as GÉANT or the regional R&E networks in Africa, UbuntuNet Alliance and WACREN are knowledgeable procurers in the telecommunications markets of their regions and the global market. NRENs and RRENs, typically, do so from the position of advanced requirements and as demanding users of service. As such an NREN is in a strong position to act as a barometer for the competitiveness of the relevant telecommunications market.
