The web is sluggish because routing sucks ;-)

How annoying is it to be surfing the web and the response is sluggish - how often does that happen - all the time ? We have measured network outages on a fine grained scale end to end over the globe cross networks and we see a significant number of smaller and bigger outages that will cause delay in services ranging from sub-seconds to minutes. That happens even if we have redundant links and routers. So even if the network survive outages the protocols and the way networks are configured and maintained still affect our quality of experience. The talk will show you the graphs and numbers and some tentative explanations and point to some measures and give experiences from UNINETT.
