Solving Multi-Layer Transport Challenges using an open SDN architecture

With disaggregation becoming a major industry trend, and being driven by developments in both open hardware platforms and SDN software, it is clear that major efficiencies can be achieved by creating a multi-layer service management and traffic forwarding architecture. The key challenges include how to represent topologies at different layers within a single abstracted information model; where to locate multi-layer path computation functions; and how to achieve deterministic switching of traffic at Layers 0, 1, 2, 2.5 and 3. This presentation will describe why the “openness” of an SDN architecture becomes paramount – including an open SDN controller platform, open APIs both Northbound and Southbound, and an open data model for both standard and vendor-specific functionality.
