When creative deployment meets innovative project setup, we have happy users! Last year at TNC16 we launched the perfSONAR on Small Nodes project in front of a small, packed and attentive audience. After informative presentations, 20 individuals from different organisations out of the GÉANT service area, or very close, gathered to collect 20 devices with perfSONAR pre-installed and pre-configured: perfSONAR powered devices. In the next days, those 20 individuals came back to their home organisations, took the small device out of its small box, plugged it into a power socket and connected it to their network, assigned it an IPv4 and an IPv6 address and informed us about those addresses. They barely did anything more. The next day, their small device was measuring network performance across the GÉANT network and the central server was collecting latency, loss and throughput data to populate the Small Nodes project dashboard. Quickly the network measurements matrix expanded and colourful patterns emerged. perfSONAR on Small Nodes in GÉANT was coming to life! This presentation will show the perfSONAR Small Nodes project results, including the participants view on this project, the installation procedure and most frequently used measurement types, as well as the potential for further continuation.
